I don't listen to much of anything from this era on a regular basis (though I admit that listening to the new 3/9/92 is what made me think of this show), but for some reason I've always loved the jam out of Terrapin and the fun/serious/ethereal drums/space segment from this date.
I'm not a 90's hater, I have a select couple of shows from some of the later years that I really like, but for the most part I rarely pull out much of anything past 1981. So drums/space segments like this aren't in my regular rotation. But somehow I discovered this show years ago, and I've always loved it.
I decided to hunt up the aud after only hearing the board for all these years, and I cannot believe the stunning seperation between instruments here. A very nice way to listen to an old favorite from a new perspective. I'm starting to wonder if I download a matrix or something. The panning and seperation on the drums and instruments is more apparent on this aud recording than on a lot of board tapes I've heard. A very nice audience recording, with just the perfect amount of crowd response in the "mix." Really, when compared to the miller sbd, which I suspect is already some kind of Healy matrix, this aud would sound just like the board if only it were a little brighter. I'd love to see someone try a matrix of this show, I bet it would have great results.
